Fish Head Friends

Fish Head Friends is all about making new friends, no pun intended. I created Fish Head Friends with the intention of building new friendships and as a way to get to know more people within the creative community. By creating fun and relatable characters to trade and exchange, I want my characters to become a memento or a symbol to represent friendships of all kinds.

Reciting your ABC's is easy, but learning what sound each letter makes, that's a different case. Alphaburp is a book displaying a series of onomatopoeia's through expressive typography and illustrations. The entire book is full of gate folds that conceal each illustration by displaying the upper and lower case of the featuring letter. Each illustration includes includes an animal and an onomatopoeia that starts with the letter displayed.

Ever since high school I've always wanted to sell my art in some sort of way or form but never felt confident until graduating university. Now that I'm done school, I've finally built up the confidence in what I do and started Fish Head Friends, my very own art shop in 2019.

My personal goal was to start selling at conventions and expos but unfortunately due to COVID I was unable to participate in any for this year. In order to sell I invested my own money in producing my first series of 6 and produced each pin one at a time once the previous pin made enough to fund the next. As of now I have successfully funded all 6 pins and a bonus 7th charitable Koala pin I made for the bushfires happening in Australia at the time.

Under each letter gate fold is an illustration depicting both an animal and an onomatopeia that starts with the featured letter. Alphaburp uses onomatopoeias to help readers understand and apply how each letter sounds in an expressive and fun manner.

Turning a Tale into Reality

Completing the first set of the Fish Head Series took roughly eight months to fund and create through recycling the sales each enamel pin made. Knowing this I wanted to find new ways to help speed up the process for future pin manufacturing and decided to take a chance at creating a Kickstarter for the next set

Fish Head Tales is the second set of friends in the Fish Head Friends series and is based off classic characters from your everyday Fairy Tale. The campaign was a success spread across 30 days with all goals unlocked at $2400+ raised through 67 backers.

Fish Head Safari

A little less than a year later from succesfully launching the Fish Head Tales Kickstarter, I took what I learned from the previous year with hopes to do even better with Fish Head Safari Friends. Some changes to this year's Kickstarter includes creating a marketing plan, premade social graphics and assets, a posting schedule, and a prelaunch campaign. With more planning, we funded roughly $1600+ unlocking four Kickstarter pins in a single day compared to last year taking roughly two weeks in to reach.

When Friends Come Together, We Create a Community

Fish Head Friends as a brand carries the concept of friendships and brings them together forming a supportive community. Our community is constantly growing on Twitch and is a great place for creatives to interact, learn, and motivate one another. We hope that with this community we can continue to build both new and old friendships and create a safe space for creatives to meet, discuss, and have some fun.
